A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of activities much better than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and using deep breathing to not snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments surfaced during the festive period, and should you missed some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
