Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation across the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, Lawrence reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing candidates throughout her life. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she realized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the voting intentions was emphasized by the outcome.
“Another four years appears changed,” said Lawrence of his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for four years. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a recent parent who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. Speaking at a interview session for the project in Venice, the star spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor aimed to shift outrage about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the story being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she said that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the birth of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.
“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also spoke about the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she remarked, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
